About me

Lucy Bizot MGuidCouns GradDipEd BA BMus

I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia. I worked as a musician from the age of 12, mainly in the folk-music scene. After finishing high-school, my plan to study behavioural science took a back seat while I instead followed the folk festival circuit around Australia and then enrolled at the Elder Conservatorium of Music in Adelaide. Pursuing a music career brought me a notable level of success, which included the privilege of performing with some of my music heroes such as English singer-songwriter Vin Garbutt, six-time Grammy award winners The Chieftains and jazz icon Ray Vega. Another highlight of working in the music industry was touring North America in 2005 with Indian fusion group Dya Singh.

I graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Arts in French and Spanish and a Graduate Diploma of Education. I then left Adelaide and the music scene and taught primary and secondary school in Humpty Doo (NT), Coonamble and Dubbo (NSW) and in Queensland on the Sunshine Coast, Rockhampton, Miriam Vale and Cairns.

During this time, I developed a pronounced interest in all things wellbeing. An attempt to better understand myself and improve my personal life led me to devour information on topics including education, diet, lifestyle, philosophy, spirituality, psychology and neuroscience.

Retraining as a helping professional, I completed a Master Degree in Guidance and Counselling in 2019 and then worked as a guidance officer for the Queensland Education Department. Guidance officers are specialist teachers who provide counselling, advice and support to help students and their families in the public school system.

I started my business Cairns Holistic Counselling in 2022, to provide counselling services to men, women and children in the Cairns region. My passion is to work with others and help them improve their lives. Private practice allows me to expand upon the counselling and consultative service I provided within the public sector, so that I am able to give clients more time, energy and specialised care.

I am a Level 2 member of the Australian Counselling Association, which means that I receive professional supervision, follow ethical practices and engage in regular professional development. You can be reassured that I run a professional practice and the counselling I provide to you will meet or exceed industry standards.

I am available to provide individual counselling, group workshops and also consultative support for businesses and non-for-profit organisations.

If you have any questions about what I can offer you, please get in contact.
