How I can help

Emotions and Stress

Do you find it difficult to manage your emotions? Is stress overwhelming you? Counselling can help support you through major life events and better regulate your emotions.

Understanding how emotions work is useful in being able to understand ourselves and those around us. Emotions, such as joy, sadness, frustration and guilt, communicate vital information about what is going on in our lives. They act as an inner compass to help protect us from danger, build relationships and motivate us to make changes.

Significant events such as separation and divorce, job loss, a medical diagnosis or parenting issue can tax our nervous system, leaving us feeling overwhelmed and unable to cope. Chronic stress can take a toll on the body and our relationships with our loved ones.

Counselling can help you gain more insight into the issues you are facing, why you may be responding in certain ways and how to better co-regulate or self-regulate your emotions in a way that will help you achieve your goals, increase resiliency and become happier and more at peace.

I help you see the bigger picture of what your emotions and stressors are telling you, as well as considering lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, sleep and social relationships. Working through emotional issues has also helped some people with chronic or idiopathic health conditions.

What about anger?

Emotional-dysregulation can negatively impact the ability for connection and closeness with others. When particularly vulnerable emotions, such as grief and loss, do not have a safe place to be felt and expressed, they can often become stuck as anger and manifest into aggressive behaviour. Recognising the roots of emotions such as anger and frustration can help us gain compassion for ourselves and respond in a way that would benefit us, rather than complicating our lives further.

A good counsellor can help you talk in a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space and support you to develop a plan to help yourself.

Relationships

Are you experiencing difficulty in a relationship? Does your spouse, child or boss drive you up the wall? A holistic understanding of how human beings relate to each other can help you improve your relationships.

Relationships are the foundation of life. We are biologically hard-wired for social connection and closeness. Healthy relationships provide you with a sense of feeling seen, while also providing opportunity for intimacy and growth. Relationships give meaning and purpose to our lives and provide a sense of belonging in a world where people are reporting unprecendented levels of loneliness and isolation.

Understanding yourself and how you function in relation to others is often the first step in improving the quality of your relationships. Counselling can help you navigate common interpersonal dynamics and patterns and offers an opportunity to discuss topics such as relational styles, personality, bullies and boundaries.

Counselling can help you develop strategies to navigate complex relational issues with a spouse, child, other family member, colleague or friend. I offer a practical and holistic approach to overcoming relationship challenges so you can become better equipped to create happier and more fulfilling relationships.

Life Satisfaction

Are you doing what you really want with your life? Does your life have meaning and purpose? Counselling offers you a safe place to explore ideas, set goals and implement practical strategies for change and transformation.

Maybe you have had difficulty achieving goals or feel like you have been going around in circles without getting anywhere. Some people sense a need for change but are unsure where to begin. Or perhaps just the concept of change is daunting.

A counsellor works with you at your pace to discuss goals and create and implement practical strategies for incremental change. I offer counselling and mentorship for those who want guidance and support through life adjustment and personal growth. My approach combines philosophy and spiritual teachings with scientific understanding of the brain and body, as well as research on life satisfaction, success and productivity.

Change occurs incrementally, not overnight, and happens best when you are supported by someone who will accept you where you are at and provide you with the encouragement to believe in yourself and your ability to change.

Counselling can help you tolerate a certain level of chaos that is inevitable in the growth process while creating an improved life that suits your personality, experience and situation.

With care, support and guidance, you are able to create a happier and more fulfilling life.
